Register for IDs, Rarieda MP tells constituents

You must present your national identification card (ID) before you getting service, Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo has told his constituents.
Gumbo, who who is also the Parliamentary Accounts Committee chair, said the move was aimed at getting more constituents to register for IDs.
The MP said that this would help consolidate the voting base in Luo-Nyanza, adding that CORD’s Raila Odinda did not clinch the top seat as many of his supporters lacked IDs and voting cards.
The MP stated that Kenyans would only be able to realize the benefit of devolution if they participate in electing good leaders.
He was speaking during the commissioning of solar powered flood lights at Lwak, Ndigwa, Misori and Aram trading centers.
Two weeks ago, Siaya Senator James Orengo wanted ID issuance to be decentralized.
He petitioned the government to strengthen the laws governing the issuance of ID’s upon application to registration centres.
