The Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu has issued a letter confirming that Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice Chairperson David Murathe are officially expelled from the party.

In the letter dated May 19, 2023, and addressed to the party Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kuttuny, the registrar states that the new Jubilee Party leadership led by EALA MP Kanini Kega followed due process in the removal of Murathe and Kioni.

Nderitu also upheld the suspension of Jubilee National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

“It is further noted that the party concluded the disciplinary processes against Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, Hon. David Murathe, and Mr Kagwe Gichohi wherein they participated in line with Section 14B (2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011 (PPA). Consequently, the party expelled  Kioni, Murathe and suspended Mr. Kagwe,” read the letter.

“Following a review of the submitted documents in line with the PPA and the party constitution, this Office is satisfied that the party adhered to the due process. Accordingly, pursuant to Section 34(da) of the PPA, this Office has updated its records and the register of party members.”

Kioni and Murathe had written to the Office of Registrar of Political Parties after the Kanini Kega-led Junilee faction expelled the pair and suspended Kagwe last week.

The standoff in the former ruling party led by Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has intensified after Kega’s team elected new party leadership.

They appointed EALA MP Sabina Chege as Jubilee Party leader to replace Kenyatta.

Kioni, Murathe and Kagwe were dismissed on grounds of gross misconduct, failing to respect the party's organs and not respecting the party's headquarters.

Kioni’s team has remained adamant and insists that the expulsion by Kega violates the law.

On Monday, however, Kenyatta led the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) where the outfit resolved to kick out Kanini and Chege from the party.
