Relief as Governor Arati steps in to help cancer survivor

Kisii county Governor Simba Arati has donated Ksh 100k to a cancer survivor's family  in Nyamira and in addition, promised to clear fees for Carren Nyaboke's children.

This comes after Citizen TV aired their story on Sunday night, revealing the deplorable state of their home in the midst of an unbearable cancer treatment burden.

Arati, who spoke to Citizen TV by phone, says he decided to help not as Kisii Governor but as Gusii Community Spokesperson in Abid to alleviate his family's medical burden.

Nyaboke, the cancer survivor, was diagnosed with the disease in 2015 but was only able to raise Ksh 4500 through village harambee to cover her medication and transportation to and from Eldoret's Moi teaching and referral hospital.

When the Citizen TV crew arrived at the patient's home in Boeri village, Nyaramba in Nyamira North, Nyaboke had developed a severe wound that had resulted in total damage to her right breast, which had fallen off a few months before.

The 51-year-old mother of eight has been in agony for years as her family struggles to make ends meet through menial labor.
