Relief for Juja residents as construction of Theta Bridge begins

Construction of the Theta Bridge linking Kenyatta Road Estate and Judah Estate in Juja has officially begun, offering long-awaited relief to residents who have struggled with poor access in the area.
The project, being undertaken by the Kiambu County
Government, will see the narrow bridge expanded to safely accommodate both
motorists and pedestrians.
For years, residents of Magomano, Rurii and Riuriro have
faced significant transport challenges due to the bridge’s deteriorating
condition. Public service vehicles (PSVs) have largely avoided the crossing,
especially during the rainy season, forcing residents to rely on motorbikes to
connect to major transport routes. This has led to longer travel times and
higher commuting costs.
“We are forced to use very long routes to get to our
destinations because PSV matatus don’t reach here because of that bridge. We
are happy that they are working on it now,” said Stephen Kiarie, a resident of
Judah Estate.
During an inspection of the construction works, Theta Ward
MCA Moses Munana said the new bridge will transform mobility in the area and
open up the surrounding villages.
He acknowledged the hardships residents have endured over
the years, noting that the project directly responds to their long-standing
concerns.
“After the completion of this bridge, these villages will be
accessible and even the value of this area will shoot up,” Munana said.
Once completed, the upgraded Theta Bridge is expected to
improve safety, ease transport costs and enhance economic activity in the
growing Juja neighbourhoods
