“We need to sit as a country and think about how do we stop this? It is not by removing President Ruto, because killings did not come with President Ruto,” remarked Nyamita.
Nyamita also condemned the abductions and killings, saying the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is not in support of the turn of events.
Nyamita further commended the Kenya Kwanza administration for what he termed as handing over independence to the police force.
“The boldest government that has given a bit of independence to the police is this government, because what is independence? Independence is being given the power to decide,” remarked Nyamita.
He also mentioned the parliamentary powers to call the police to order, sanctioning them and even firing the Inspector General of Police when he fails to do certain things.
Recalling the deaths of Kenyans from previous regimes, the Uriri legislator reiterated his call for the killings to stop, adding that the people who died then are no less those who have died recently.
His statement comes after ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna made contrasting remarks, stating that removing President Ruto is a national priority agenda and that the actions of his administration are in contravention to the rule of law and the provisions of the 2010 Constitution.
“In my ranking, removing Ruto is top. It’s even higher than getting the second terminal at JKIA or dualling Malaba to Mombasa,” remarked Sifuna.
Sifuna called on citizens to be bold and only focus on removing President Ruto from office.
“My view about 2027 is that there will be no room for sentiments. The project of removing William Ruto does not allow for sentiments,” said Sifuna.
