Medic, 65, in jail after woman dies during abortion procedure

Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 65-year-old man following the death of a woman after an abortion procedure allegedly went awry.
The accused, a retired doctor, runs the privately licensed clinic in Sagana where the alleged abortion on the 20-year-old was conducted.
According to Mwea West OCPD Joseph Matiku, police had a difficult time trying to save the accused from irate residents who threatened to lynch him.
They accused him of causing the death of another person, a case they say is in court.
Sagana residents have also faulted county public health officers for allowing the doctor to operate a clinic despite reports that he conducts back-door abortions.
The retired doctor is being held at Sagana Police Station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
