The group editorial director and head of strategy at Royal
Media Services Linus Kaikai has challenged the government through the Ministry
of Education as well as other education stakeholders to invest in empowerment
and mentorship programs for the boy child.
According to Kaikai, who was speaking during the prize-giving day at Masii Boys in Mwala Sub-County in Machakos County, the boy
child has been left behind despite the notable progress that has been made in
girl child empowerment over the years.
“This country put a lot of emphasis in uplifting the status
of the girl child from the schools o basically protecting the entire path and
paving it for girls a lot of attention was taken to ensure that girls enroll
more in schools and also finish their schools,” said Kaikai.
“I want to urge that it is time to also look at the boys so
that we don’t drop in terms of the quality of the man we have in this country.”
He joined the leadership of the school and the county in
calling on the boys to embrace the right attitude towards life, exercise moral
values and to have the drive to excel.
“We have a dream to see the leaders and legal administrators
of this country in the years to come. Among them will be students of Masii,”
Masii Boys Principal Joseph Nzioka said.
The School’s Board Chairperson Winnie Mutuku stated, “We give
bursaries to the needy students; kindly parents who have children unable to pay
fees, take advantage of our county’s bursary fund and apply them so that we can
have our children in school.”
“I have been in a mixed school so I know how boys behave. I
want to plead with you as you go towards the end, keep your focus and don’t loose
your dream,” added Machakos Education CECM Consolata Mutisya.
