Robbers are stealing church equipment for campaigns – clergy

African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) Kangaru, Embu West on were forced to delay their Sunaday service after robbers made away with Ksh.500,000 worth of musical and public address equipment.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Pastor Newton Mugendi said the thugs broke into the church through a window, stealing speakers, amplifiers and other items.

Following the incident, members of the clergy from the region lamented about increased church burglaries in recent times. They said that thieves are reselling the equipment to politicians as demand for public address equipment has risen during the campaign period.

Mugendi asked politicians to work with the church to end this vice by refusing to purchase stolen goods.

Stating that this was a major setback for the church as they had taken time to acquire the equipment, he lamented that the society has deteriorated to the point that thieves would actively target churches.

The religious leaders asked police to step up security for churches, adding that officers should track down the criminals targeting religious institutions.
