Rongo police arrest fake lawyer

Police in Rongo have arrested a fraudulent lawyer who has allegedly been conning people hundreds of thousands of shillings claiming to be an advocate.

Jackson Abuor Ogutu, a fake lawyer who pretended to be a land issues’ expert, was arrested by police in his office in Rongo Monday evening.

Rongo OCPD, Kisaka Muganda, said the police managed to trail and arrest the rogue advocate after receiving several complaints from people he had allegedly conned.

Kisaka said the fraudulent lawyer had allegedly made away with millions of shillings belonging to his supposed clients especially those who had sought his services on land related cases.

The victims claimed that he disappears for some time after conning clients before resurfacing later.

The Rongo police boss on Monday said they received a complaint from an 89-year-old granny whom he had allegedly conned money amounting to over Sh500,000.

He said there were several complaints registered in his office about the suspect and was now appealing to members of the public who may have been conned by the fake lawyer to report to the police.

Kisaka said the suspect is detained in police custody as investigations continue, adding that he would be arraigned in court Thursday to answer the charges filed against him.
