Ruaraka MP Kajwang arrested

Ruaraka Member of Parliament Tom Joseph Kajwang has been arrested over Tuesday’s ‘swearing-in’ of NASA Leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.

The legislator, who administered the controversial oath during the event held at Uhuru Park Grounds, was arrested at Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Kajwang was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation headquarters in Nairobi.

The MP was arrested by plainclothes police officers who had reportedly been waiting for him to leave the courtroom.

Kajwang was appearing before Justice George Odunga to represent the Parliamentary Service Commission in a case where a section of MPs are challenging the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s move to slash their salaries.

On Tuesday, Kajwang was among the opposition legislators who arrived early for the ‘inauguration’ of Mr. Odinga.

Dressed in a lawyer’s robe and wig, Kajwang placed the oath on the podium and stood on Mr. Odinga’s left side as the opposition chief read out the pledge.
