Rukia Abdullahi, 14, elected president of children’s government

Rukia Abdulahi, 14, is now the president of the national children’s government after emerging a winner in a presidential race held on Monday at Nairobi Primary School.

Rukia will now lead a ten-member cabinet elected by 470 pupils drawn from primary schools across the country during the 2nd annual children’s government conference.

This was after a three-day workshop sponsored by UNICEF, in partnership with the Canadian government, Kenyan Ministry of Education and the Kenyan Primary Schools Head Teachers Association.

In the child-centered design workshop, each child redefined the concept of child-friendly schools by providing actionable steps to making schools more inclusive, protective, healthy and equitable for all.

The National Children’s Government executive officials are now expected to present their national priorities to the Kenyan Parliament on 18th June, 2015.
