During the tour, which began at the Kabete Affordable Housing project under the national Affordable Housing Programme, the leaders vowed to sustain joint efforts to modernise the city, create jobs for young people, and improve access to essential services.
They toured key education and infrastructure projects delivered through the partnership, including the handover of 16 newly constructed classrooms at Kangemi Primary School and the commissioning of additional classroom blocks at Kihumbuini Primary School. The leaders also inspected the newly built Kangemi Overpass, where they engaged residents and reaffirmed their commitment to visible, people-centred development.
President Ruto said the collaboration is focused on delivering measurable outcomes that will elevate the capital to global standards through investments in roads, lighting, housing, and education.
“This is the capital city; we must raise it to the standards of a global city. We are addressing lighting, roads, affordable housing, and classrooms. As promised, today you can see the results. We shall be judged not by what we say, but by what we deliver,” he said.
He described the KSh80 billion cooperation pact as a decisive intervention to tackle long-standing urban challenges such as inadequate water supply, unreliable connectivity, and poor road networks.
“This partnership will restore order, improve living standards and position Nairobi as a clean, functional and investment-ready capital city that reflects the ambition of our nation,” Ruto said.
Governor Sakaja welcomed the additional funding, terming it transformative for the city and necessary to support Nairobi’s unique role as Kenya’s capital and economic hub. He noted that the agreement is designed to fast-track service delivery and position the city as a clean, functional, and investment-ready metropolis.
“This partnership is service-delivery oriented. The additional Sh80 billion affirms that Nairobi requires a different level of support, not just as a county, but as the face of our nation,” Sakaja said.
The leaders later visited additional project sites and addressed residents, assuring them that the national–county collaboration would continue to drive inclusive growth and deliver lasting urban transformation.
