Ruto to Raila: You will not hold us back from growing the country

President William Ruto has chastised Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga over his plan to hold public rallies, stating that he will not be deterred from making progress in the country.

President Ruto claimed on Sunday during a church service at the University of Embu in Embu that Raila is fond of disrupting any progress made by the government, but it will not stop him from growing the nation's economy.

He further cautioned Raila against threatening and blackmailing the nation and said he should stick to his role of keeping the government in check as the opposition.

"We will continue without development programmes with or without public rallies because we know that they do not want the country's economy to grow," he said.

"They can do as they please but I assure them that Kenya is not going to be the same. You will not blackmail this nation and threaten the people of Kenya. We are determined to move the country forward and you will not hold us back. These people ought to be doing the work of the opposition. "

The Head of State went on to say that he has directed Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. Kithure Kindiki to obtain the rally schedule so that security personnel can be provided "to protect them."

He has also asked Raila's team to announce the period during which they wish to hold the demonstrations.

"I have asked CS Kindiki to ask them their demonstration schedule so that we provide security to protect them and they do not vandalize people's property," he noted.

"They should also tell us if they want to demonstrate every day, every month, and for how many years, because we are used to them."

This comes as Raila vowed to launch public demonstrations to oppose President William Ruto's administration at the Kamukunji grounds on Wednesday, December 7 and Monday, December 12.

Meanwhile, the Jubilee and KANU parties under the Azimio la Umoja coalition have distanced themselves from the rallies.
