A taskforce to review terms for the National Police Service will be appointed before the end of the year.

Speaking at the 59th Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nairobi, President William Ruto reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of the disciplined forces.

The Head of State reminded Kenyans of his commitment to deliver on campaign promises regarding security starting with financial autonomy for the police.

“On my first day in office I also executed the necessary instruments to actualize the financial independence of the National Police Service in the realization that this is the substantive enabler of genuine institutional independence,” said Ruto.

The president noted the importance of financial autonomy for the National Police Service in carrying out their duties without coercion and ensuring accountability, efficiency and professionalism. The service, now under new command was praised for embracing the new order.

There is now consensus that a new policing paradigm is at hand and it is possible to achieve a high level of security for our citizens and also observe their rights and freedoms to the greatest extent,” added Ruto.

The president promised better days ahead for the police.

Before the end of the year, I will be appointing a task force to review the terms of the police service,” he said.

The president expressed confidence that internal and external threats are under control.

The kenya defence forces whose latest deployment is in the eastern part of the democratic republic of Congo were also praised for their professionalism, commitment to solidarity and humanitarianism.

Traditional security threats are under control, with the government making huge strides to eliminate banditry, cattle rustling and urban crime. Our neighbourhood may be rough, but we live in peace and fraternity with all our neighbours and play our role as a member of the regional and international community,”said Ruto.
