Prof. Kindiki said the tour will not be a political engagement but fully oriented on improving the lives of residents by ensuring faster implementation of projects and programmes geared to improve incomes for the locals.
“Next week the President will be here in Mt Kenya. And he is not coming to do politics. He is coming to open markets, ensure expansion of electricity connection programmes, inspect road and irrigation and other ongoing projects in the region,” DP said.
He spoke on Thursday when he inspected ongoing government-funded projects in Murang’a County including the Gikoe ESP Market in Mathioya Constituency which is 80 percent complete. The Market will accommodate hundreds of small-scale traders who will benefit from better facilities that will dignify their hustles.
“The President has sent me to ensure these projects are completed faster for wananchi to benefit from them. We are supporting the President in ensuring these projects are completed on time here in Mathioya and every part of the country.
This is the work the government does. Politics is for those in the opposition. Our work is to serve the people through important projects like this market which will be completed in under five weeks,” DP indicated.
Earlier, he also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects in Tharaka-Nithi including the ongoing Kibugua-Itugururu-Ishiara Road.
Prof. Kindiki said the President is working round the clock to deliver on the promises made to the people and that they are fully supporting all the efforts to realise this on time.
“The President has sent me to ensure these projects are completed faster for wananchi to benefit from them. We are supporting the President in ensuring they are completed on time here in Mathioya and every part of the country,” the DP affirmed.
The Deputy President also called on the residents not to be misled by politicians seeking selfish gains at the expense of the region’s development.
“National unity is a catalyst for economic and social transformation of our Country. People from Mt. Kenya Region are enterprising and can be found in all parts of the Country. We must not allow selfish and parochial interests to isolate Mt. Kenya Region from other regions of the country,” he said.
At the same time, the DP said the Government is making all efforts to save Margaret Nduta, a Kenyan from Murang'a County, who is facing execution risk in Vietnam.
