People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has hinted that President William Ruto may not be ready for the 2027 elections, citing recent actions taken by his administration.

In an interview on Citizen TV, Karua criticised Ruto's administration over its handling of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). She accused him of playing a role in the commissioners' exit, leaving the commission crippled.

Karua also referenced to what she described as delay tactics by which the president in reconstituting the IEBC, effectively denying the country a functional electoral body.

Karua also weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding President Ruto’s construction of a Ksh.1.2 billion church within State House, questioning whether the president is acting as though he holds the title deed to the house on the hill.

"I'm looking at Dr. Ruto and I see a man who is not ready to go to elections; he denies the country an IEBC, everything he's doing is as if he has a title deed to State House, why would he build a church there?" Karua posed.

"Being elected is not a title deed which you wave in our faces, you have a term but it can be withdrawn. He should consider that he was fired last year during the Gen Z protests. If you're on borrowed time, try to correct your mistakes; he's adding insult to injury. My call is for all Kenyans of goodwill that this is our country."

She challenged the Ruto regime to change its course, warning that Kenyans hold the constitutional power to terminate his mandate early, reigniting the ongoing debate over the one-term slogan.

"If you want to meet us on the ballot, change your ways, you and your illegitimate rogue regime. if not, Kenyans have the power to terminate the contract earlier," she pointed out.

"I've heard Ruto's utterance that if there's no Kenya for Ruto, there will be no Kenya. This is a deliberate attempt to cause strife. We must resist and all kenyans come together to save this country, not in a dialogue but placing measures that will stop this rogue government in its tracks."

The PLP leader also criticised the proposal for a national dialogue, arguing that such talks would serve the interests of a select few while leaving the majority of Kenyans without a voice or viable options.
