Saba Saba protests: Death toll rises to five

The death toll from Monday’s
Saba Saba protests has risen to five after one person was shot and killed in
Kiritiri, Embu County.
Earlier in the day, in Kajiado County’s
Kitengela town, a 21-year-old man was shot dead while three others were rushed
to the Kitengela Subcounty Hospital with serious gunshot injuries.
Red Cross officials, moments later,
transferred them to the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi after angry
locals stormed the health facility, threatening to torch it.
In Nairobi’s Kangemi area, two protesters
succumbed to gunshot injuries at Eagle Hospital, doctors at the facility said.
Meanwhile, in the Tumaini area of Olkalou, Nyandarua
County, one person was shot dead while another was rushed to the hospital with
serious injuries as police tackled protesters.
A police officer was also seriously injured
in the melee.
