The death toll from Monday’s Saba Saba protests has risen to five after one person was shot and killed in Kiritiri, Embu County.

Earlier in the day, in Kajiado County’s Kitengela town, a 21-year-old man was shot dead while three others were rushed to the Kitengela Subcounty Hospital with serious gunshot injuries.

Red Cross officials, moments later, transferred them to the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi after angry locals stormed the health facility, threatening to torch it.

In Nairobi’s Kangemi area, two protesters succumbed to gunshot injuries at Eagle Hospital, doctors at the facility said.

Meanwhile, in the Tumaini area of Olkalou, Nyandarua County, one person was shot dead while another was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries as police tackled protesters.

A police officer was also seriously injured in the melee.
