Samburu County sets aside Ksh.255 million to fight Covid-19

A collective Ksh.255 million has been set aside by the Samburu County Government and National Government to fight COVID-19 pandemic in Samburu County.

The fund is comprised of Ksh.228 million from the county and an additional Ksh.27 million from the National Government.

County CEC for Finance Dorcas Lekisanyal said Governor Moses Lenolkulal has already appointed an eight-member committee led by Alex Leseketet to be in-charge of the fund.

Samburu County Commissioner John Korir said there is another committee that will oversee implementation of different measures against COVID-19 in the county.

Ms. Lekisanyal said the purchase of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and supply of relief food to hunger stricken families will be prioritized.

“As at now we don’t have ICU beds, we expect to purchase ICU beds, purchase more personal protective gears for health workers, do more on awareness campaigns and an oxygen plant,” she said.

She added that stalled water bowsers would be repaired and strategic boreholes be revived to ensure there is enough water in Samburu North, Samburu East and Samburu Central.
