Samburu youth to get free motor vehicle driving training

A hundred youth in Maralal Town, Samburu Central Sub-county were on Sunday selected to benefit from a training program for motor vehicle driving.

Beneficiaries of the program, that is sponsored by Maralal ward fund, said the training would improve their lives.

“There are jobs in this town but this free training has awaken us, we have never been asked by MCA to wake up for a program like this, I will sleep a happy person”  Mr James Nakuronyoi a resident of Loikas village within Maralal town said.

The area MCA Mr Fred Kiragu said the program was meant to empower the youth with driving skills that would enable them seek employment.

“We have given out vocational bursaries to train our youths on a way of seeking employment, we have today started by training a hundred male and female youths on how to drive motor vehicle at maran driving school,” said Kiragu.

He added that 20 girls from the ward have also been sponsored to pursue a hair-dressing course and acquire skills that would enable them to be self employed.

Despite having knowledge on how to ride motorbikes and drive vehicles, Kiragu said many youth in the ward could not drive on the roads due to lack of licenses.
