‘Schooling mother’ dumps newborn in pit latrine

A form two student shocked residents of Kangema in Murang’a County after she allegedly dumped her new-born child in a pit latrine at around 11:00 pm on Wednesday.

The student, from Watuuha Secondary School, is said to have given birth to a baby girl before dumping the child in a school pit latrine.

According to some students, the child is believed to have stuck in the pit hole for nearly twenty-three hours before any of them realized from the cries of the toddler.

Kangema Director of Education, Paul Mungai, said that he received a call from the school principal reporting the incident and he (Mungai) immediately called the fire brigade.

The rescue team helped retrieve the child who was taken to Murang’a Hospital where he is receiving medical care.

Mungai urged students to abstain from premarital sex and focus on education which is key to making a bright future for children.

He also called upon teachers to intensify guidance and counselling sessions.

According to the doctors, the boy-child is stable and out of danger.
