Security chiefs say ready for polls

Narok County Security Council has assured its residents that security in the region will be enhanced during and after elections.

Speaking in Narok during a training session of IEBC security personnel and other officers, Narok County Commissioner, Moffat Kangi, said that all procedures were underway to ensure all citizens within his locality are safe and security is hiked in all polling stations to accord them peaceful voting process.

The commissioner has also cautioned residents against blocking roads or causing chaos. He, however, maintained that anyone found culpable of perpetrating hate or violence will be held responsible in accordance with the law irrespective of his or her position.

“We will not tolerate anybody who is going to cause a breach of peace. Whatever the position they hold or whatever the level the have reached, we cannot allow them to cause chaos,” warned Kangi.

Kangi received a backing from Kajiado County Commissioner, Harsama Kello, who echoed his statement and added that his officers will be alert to ensure voters meet the IEBC directive of 400 meters distance away from polling centers after voting.

“I have laid all security measures in place. No one should avoid voting due to insecurity reasons. After voting go home straight. There is no crowding around polling stations. If you want to be around, maintain 400 meter directive. We won’t spare you if you object this directive. We shall use force,” said Kajiado County commissioner Harsama Kello.

Mr. Kello maintained that anyone objecting this directive would face the law.

Consecutively, Mr. Kello said that all liquor selling clubs will be shut early today to ensure that no evil is planned in those clubs to disrupt tomorrow’s election. He said that he had already communicated with club owners and agreed on the same.

“We shall close all bars early. I have given instructions to deputy county commissioners and county police commanders to ensure all bars and entertainment sites are closed early so that we may manage movements and control possible evils,” added Mr. Kello.
