The Senate Lands Committee has made a site visit to Langata on a fact-finding mission to establish whether the construction of a building is affecting the operations of the nearby Wilson Airport.

The legislators are seeking to find out whether the construction of the building is interfering with the emergency exit of the airport, thereby posing serious risks in flight operations.

The Parliamentary Lands watchdog is also investigating whether the construction has caused blockage of the sewerage and drainage systems in the area.

“There are complaints that their drainage systems have been blocked, and their estate is facing serious problems of flooding and cracks in their houses because of the ongoing construction. They did get an order from the Environment Tribunal, but the order has been ignored,” said the Senate Committee Chair on Lands and Settlement Chairperson, Mohamed Faki.

Nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana added: “The same residents went to NEMA, followed all the due process, but unfortunately hii bado imegonga mwamba. I thank the Senate Committee came here and saw the problem that is happening.”
