After Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s blunder last
week, where he tweeted a 3-year old photo of a squeaky-clean Kenyatta Avenue
street and tried to pass it off as one of his achievements, yet another public
figure has been caught spreading misinformation.
This time, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been accused of attempting to fool Kenyans using a downloaded photo of a cow
and three calves, claiming that they were from President William Ruto's
farm.
While attaching the photo of the
healthy-looking mother and calves, the Senator wrote; "H.E Ruto cow gives
birth to triplets of his symbolic
leadership. 5 years of backfilling debt hole created by Uhuru + Raila into
economic transformation, 5 yrs for economic stability, 5yrs of kenya prosperity
of milk + honey... 15 yrs of uninterrupted economic transformation. "
Despite providing no context for his
perplexing wording, Kenyans took issue with the Senator after realising that
the photo he used was actually a photo posted on Facebook by a German
Agricultural Facebook page on January 30, 2023.
The page, 'CRV Deutschland' was sharing a
series of photos taken at the farm of two young boys Jason and Jonas who were
celebrating the birth of the triplets that they named Emma, Ella and Emil.
"Brothers Jason and Jonas were not badly
surprised when their favorite cow Elisa gave birth to not one but directly
three calves without any problems. Since then, the three calves Emma, Ella and
Emil have enjoyed best health and abundant cuddles and are diligently fed by
the two proud brothers from Lichtenau every day," the page posted.
"We would like to thank the Agethen
family for the great picture and wish them triplets alot of joy!" they
added.
Many hawk-eyed Kenyans, as well as the Media
Observer’s fact-checking desk, pointed out the chicanery to the Senator who has
not responded or even bothered pull down the misleading post.
A tweet by Senator @scherargei claiming that President @WilliamsRuto cow has given birth to triplets is misleading and false.
