Senator wants Anti-Stock Theft station at Kisumu-Nandi border

Police have restored calmness along the Kisumu-Nandi border after a series of clashes between the two communities living in the area and that have led to the death of two people and left over 800 others displaced.

Peace and order returned at Owiro farms in Nandi County, where five houses belonging to one community were torched on Wednesday.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Songo Sub-location assistant chief, Kipkoech Rotich, noted that calmness is slowly returning and normal business resuming, adding that some of the residents who had run away from their homes and camped at Kipsisin Primary School have returned.

“Women, children, and the elderly who had to flee their homes out of fear have finally returned, thanks to the police who are guarding the area,” he said.

Kisumu Senator, Prof. Peter Anayang’ Nyong’o, has called on the government to construct an Anti-Stock Theft Unit station at the border to deal with cases of cattle rustling.

Learning activities, which had been paralyzed by the clashes, are slowly regaining normalcy with only 80 pupils reporting back to school at Kipsisin Primary School.

Residents have called on the government deploy more officers and ensure that security is continually tightened out of fear of fresh attacks.
