Senators eyeing governorship should be ‘barred’ from committees – Elachi

Nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi now wants the law amended to bar Senators who have expressed interests in gubernatorial positions from holding powerful Senate committee positions.

Elachi says most Senators have shown interest in taking over as county government bosses and are using their powers in committees to undermine the leadership of Governors they want to replace.

Speaking at Lugala Primary School in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, the Senator warned her colleagues will stifle devolution using the current laws for selfish interests if not amended.

Among Senators who have expressed interest in governorship position include Kakamega’s Boni Khalwale, who seeks to replace Wyclyffe Oparanya, Gidion Mbuvi alias Mike Sonko, who hopes to replace Dr. Evans Kidero in Nairobi, and Kiraitu Murungi who hopes to unseat Meru’s Peter Munya.
