Seven more succumb to COVID-19 in Kenya, death toll hits 1,552

Seven more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in Kenya raising the death toll to 1,552.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the country’s caseload is now 89,661 after 561 tested positive in the last 24 hours.

“From the cases 539 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners. In terms of gender 387 are males and 174 females. The youngest is one year-old baby, while the oldest is 87,” he said.

The cumulative tests are now 945,323.

According to the CS, 1,096 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide with 8,016 in home based isolation and care.

63 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support and 26 on supplemental oxygen; another five are under observation.

71 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 63 are in the general wards.

Eight are in High Dependency Unit.

355 patients have however recovered from the disease: 274 from the Home-Based Care Program and 81 discharged from various hospitals.

Total recoveries now stand at 70,194.

From the latest cases reported over the last 24 hours, county distribution is as follows:

Nairobi 189, Mombasa 85, Bungoma 65, Busia 36, Kericho 19, Kiambu 19, Kwale 19, Kisumu 17, Embu 13, Kilifi 12, Nakuru 11, Lamu 11, Uasin Gishu 9, Marsabit 9, Kakamega 7, Nyeri 6, Kirinyaga 6, Machakos 4, Laikipia 4, Kajiado 3, Murang’a 2, Homa Bay 2, Turkana 2, Makueni 2, Tana River 2, Taita Taveta 1, Nyandarua 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Vihiga 1, Meru 1, Siaya 1 and Trans Nzoia 1.
