Eight people killed as Nairobi-bound bus plunges into Mbagathi River

Bus plunges into Mbagathi River in Gataka area on the border between Nairobi and Kajiado North.

At least eight people have been confirmed dead after a bus they were travelling in plunged into Mbagathi River in Gataka area of Karen in Nairobi.

The bus belonging to Naboka Sacco was heading to Nairobi from Gataka, when the driver, who is among the fatalities, lost control and veered off the road.

Six people died on the spot while two others died while undergoing treatment. 

Nineteen others sustained injuries with 14 being rushed to Karen Hospital with three of them being in critical state.

Three others are being treated at Ngong Hospital with two more undergoing treatment at St Mary's hospital. 

Police and rescue teams are currently at the scene retrieving the victims from the river.
