Shock After KMTC student dies by suicide hours to graduation

Shock and grief engulfed Chepseon area in Kipkelion East constituency after a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student committed suicide for unknown reasons.

According to one of the provincial administration officers who spoke on condition of anonymity, the student identified as Peter Kipngetich Koech, 30, who was supposed to graduate on Thursday was suspected to have committed suicide by injecting himself with an unknown drug.

The officer said the victim had on Wednesday told his parents that he was travelling to Nairobi for the graduation ceremony which was taking place at the Kasarani Stadium on Thursday.

He said the father who is also a clinician in one of the hospitals in Kericho gave the deceased Ksh.15,000 to use for the ceremony.

The administrator revealed that on Thursday morning the deceased went to their family houses in Chepseon market, found, the watchman and requested the key telling him that he wanted to rest inside one of the houses.

The watchman obliged.

He then opened the house belonging to his father and allegedly injected himself with the dug.

In the morning, the watchman went to check on him but was shocked after discovering the student lying unconscious in bed with the syringe still stuck in his hand.

He raised an alarm which attracted the attention of other members of the public who rushed to the scene and tried to rescue the deceased but had already succumbed.

The incident was later reported at Chepseon police station where police officers rushed to the scene, removed the body and took it to Lipton Central Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
