Siaya Court Convicts 4 Pharmacists

The four, 2 men and 2 women were also charged with being in possession of pharmaceutical drugs illegally.

A Siaya court convicted the four for engaging in pharmaceutical businesses in unregistered premises contrary to the Pharmaceutical Act.

Maurine Alphine Onyango, a chemist from Kobare market, James Ouma from Dondi market, Awour Ogonya and Maurine Onyango both from Ndere market were separately charged with engaging in the businesses on the 27th January 2014.

The court heard that the four were arrested following an inspection by a team of officials from the Kenya Dentists and Pharmacists Board who found them operating without licenses.

The accused persons who appeared before Siaya acting Principal Magistrate Celesta Okore asked for forgiveness.

The court however slapped them with the Ksh 120,000 fine or in default serve 15 years behind the bars.

They were given 14 days to appeal.
