Six of the ten individuals who perished in the fatal road accident involving five motor vehicles at Salama area in Makueni County on Monday night were relatives.
The six, a man, woman and four minors, were part of an extended family from Nakuru that had travelled to Mombasa on Thursday for Easter festivities.
They were returning to Nakuru on Monday when the 14-seater matatu they had hired, as part of a convoy of three vehicles, collided head on with a truck.
According to the victim's kin, Anne Njenga, out of the seven surviving family members, four are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Makindu while the remaining three are recuperating at a facility in Nakuru.
Police reports indicate that the collisions began when the driver of the lorry, traveling towards Mombasa, veered the vehicle out of its designated lane, causing it to collide with the matatu.
The initial impact then
set off a chain reaction, resulting in the five-vehicle pileup.
