Six Rwandan nationals are currently nursing
injuries after being attacked by members of the notorious ‘Confirm Gang’ in Bondeni,
Nakuru County on Sunday.
The
six victim; Hazikimana Eziel (25), Juvenal Bucumi(24), Nduwimana Edmond (27),
Niyikiza Bernard (23), Chris Charire (28), and Igisubizo Jean Pier (24), were
allegedly accosted by the gang at their rental home before being battered and
robbed.
The
incident, Rwandese in Nakuru union chair Nshimiyumuremyi Placide says, was
preceded by one of the victims, Bucumi, being attacked by gang members en route
to his place of work.
The
mob allegedly poured coffee that the victim was selling at the time, forcing
him to run back home for reinforcements.
The
gang members armed with crude weapons however tailed the man to the rental
apartment.
Fearing for their safety, the victims locked
themselves in the house which was soon after broken into by at least 15 of the gang
members.
The
thugs proceeded to assault the six before robbing them after gaining access to
the premises. According to Placide, the victims sustained burns and stab wounds
during the altercation.
“We
thank our neighbours for calling the police officers who responded swiftly and
rescued them. We have been living here for so long but we have never quarreled
over anything. I wonder why they did this to us. We love peace, we just plead
with them to stop attacking us,” Placide told the Nation newspaper.
“We
just came to Kenya to work and improve our lives, not to cause chaos, and we
are here legally. We have our documents except for those whose were stolen, we
plead with the Rwandan embassy to intervene.”
The
victims also allege that they received deportation threats from the gang prior
to the incident.
Confirming
the incident, Nakuru Town East Police Commander Elena Kabukuru said that two
gang members had been arrested in connection with the occurrence.
"The
two were arrested yesterday and were taken to court today according to the law,
but we requested the court through a miscellaneous application to allow us hold
the two suspects for five more days to complete with investigations which we
were granted," said Kabukuru.
The incident
comes almost one month after four South Sudan nationals sustained serious burns
while one other succumbed to injuries after a mob set their house on fire in
Nakuru's Mawanga Estate.
