Six-year-old child airlifted to hospital after bandit attack

A six-year-old girl who survived death on Wednesday in the volatile Baringo County was on Thursday airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment to remove a bullet lodged in her chest.

Sendeyo Kenteiya was transferred to the Nairobi Hospital after  being denied admission at a Nakuru hospital for failing to raise Shs20,000.

The girl, now orphaned after her mother was killed by bandits in Baringo,  was transported to Nairobi after political leaders from various regions pledged to meet her medical bills.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi, Kajiado Senator Peter Ole Mositet, Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim, Nairobi County Assembly Dpeaker Alex Sanaika Ole Magelo were among leaders who visited her at the Nakuru hospital.

Governor Cheboi strongly condemned cattle rustling that has been going on for years and now has led to deaths of innocent children.

Mositet urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to consider involving the military in the operations in Baringo, since the police force deployed there has not been able to bring end bandit attacks.

The Nairobi County Speaker took the opportunity to criticize the National Assembly’s National Administration and Security Committee Chairman Asman Kamama and other Pokot leaders for not criticizing the massacre in the region that has been going on since January this year.

He said Kamama had no right to chair the security committee if he did not concern himself with safety measures of the people who are now being felled by bandits bullets.

However, Governor Cheboi said his convoy was not attacked contrary to earlier reports, but said a bandit did shoot in his direction while they were trying to vacate school children to safer grounds.

The Baringo Governor thanked Kenya Red Cross Society for acting swiftly on his request during the moving of the pupils to a primary school near Marigat.

The Wednesday’s attack comes two days after three people, including a three-day old child were killed in Mukutani area, Tiaty Constituency in Baringo South.

The three were shot dead by cattle raiders who attacked Koitumot village  on Tuesday morning after bandits sprayed bullets on a police vehicle which was carrying the three before driving away with unknown number of cattle.
