Slain IEBC ICT director buried

Slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Director, Chris Msando, was on Saturday, August 19 laid to rest at his Lifunga Kobiero rural home in Ugenya, Siaya County.

Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay the late IEBC officer his last respect, in an event that was full of sorrow especially because of the circumstances of Mr. Msando’s death.

The body of Msando and his friend, Maryanne Ngumbu, were found dumped at Muguga Forest in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, with autopsy results showing that the two were strangled to death with bear hands.

Non of the IEBC’s top official including Chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, and CEO, Ezra Chiloba, attended the ceremony, and the commission was represented by regional junior officers.

An emotional Msando’s widow, Eva Buyu, delivered a speech that pleaded with her late husband to haunt his killers.

“I want you to go but don’t forget about your killers. Search them industriously and let them pay for what they did,” said Ms Buyu.

Prominent opposition, National Super Alliance (NASA), leaders graced the occasion including coalition leader, Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor-elect, Peter Anyang Nyong’o, Siaya Senator, James Orengo, Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, Vihiga Senator, George Khaniri, Ugunja, Mumias West and Gem MPs-elect Opiyo Wandayi, John Naicca and Elisha Odhiambo.

Opposition leaders accused the government of being sluggish in investigating the murder of Msando, calling upon the security agencies to speed up on their probe to find out who killed him and why?

“Msando’s killers are known and reasons also known. He was killed probably because he refused to be part of rigging polls. About the polls, the truth shall be known in the courts regardless of how the judges will rule,” said Mr. Odinga who has petitioned the declaration of President Kenyatta as winner of the August polls by IEBC.

“The guilty are afraid, they’ve been afraid ever since murdering msando. They are running away from their sins but the truth will never be hidden. Msando did want the rot to spread across Kenya, but the rotten leadership eliminated him,” added Prof. Nyong’o.

Although investigations into Msando’s murder slowed down because of elections, having been murdered just 9 days to the August 8 polls, police say that they are finding it difficult making significant advances to the case.

The late Chris Msando has left behind a widow and five children.
