Former
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has cleared the court fine of one Alvin Linus
Chivondo, a man who was on Wednesday charged with shoplifting.
Sonko, who is seeking the Mombasa County
governor’s seat at the August polls, cleared the Ksh.100, 000 fine instituted
by a Nairobi court.
While insisting that he cleared Chivondo's
fine out of the goodness in his heart and not for clout, Sonko also revealed
that he would give Chivondo a job together with a month's supply of food.
Chivondo, 21, is said to have
stolen 5
kgs of rice, honey, tea leaves, and sugar, all totaling Ksh. 3,165 from a Naivas supermarket.
According
to reports, he posed as a customer, picking the items from the shelves, before
packing them into a non-woven carrier bag.
He
was intercepted while attempting to exit the supermarket without paying.
Chivondo pleaded guilty to the charges.
