Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has lalashed out the former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko saying that the former deserves to be in
jail over misuse of social media.
Speaking during the premiere of 16-day activism against Gender-based Violence at Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC),
Passaris noted that Sonko has continued his violence against women and
should face the law.
“Today we have seen another woman who was exposed by a man I
think is not worthy to be called a leader in this country. He deserves to be in
jail for all that he has done; for the defamation that he has done,” Passaris
said.
The Women Rep was referring to an instance where Sonko
exposed Mary Nkatha, a former county worker on social media fueling mixed
reactions.
“I feel that that kind of emotional GBV that is happening in
this country has to end. And it starts with the authorities making sure that they
end this,” Passaris said.
Similarly, Passaris appealed to the Directorate of Criminal
Investigation (DCI) in conjunction with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP)
to shut down his social media accounts since he has been adamant in his ‘continuous
emotional gender violation’ against women.
I am challenging the DPP and DCI; close those social media
platforms. When he doesn’t have that, you cut his power down.
While calling out Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia who was also present in the event, Passaris cited an incident in the U.S when the former President Donald Trump had his social media accounts blocked, saying that the same can apply to Sonko.
“Let’s cut everything that gives that low esteem character power. They did it to Donald Trump; they can surely do it to this idiot,” she added.
Sonko has been in the limelight in the past week with the now popular “Sonko leaks ” where he has been exposing people he terms as ‘corrupt leaders’.
Sonko in an interview with KTN News Line on Tuesday night defended his actions saying that it is his way of fighting graft in the country.
“Kenya is bigger than everybody else, we have to fix this country; the Judiciary, people need to know what is happening, “ he said.
“Fighting cartels has always been in my blood. I am just fighting justice for over 40 plus million Kenyans, “ Sonko added.
He has since vowed to continue with his actions.
