Sonko’s NEDP unveils first candidates for by-elections

The party issued its inaugural nomination certificates during a ceremony led by Sonko, alongside chairman Dr. John Nyamu, Secretary General Ben Mulwa, and other officials.
Among the nominees, Isack Abduba Fayo will contest the Isiolo South parliamentary seat. George Musini Mukhwana was cleared to run for the West Kabras MCA seat in Malava Constituency, while Cosmas Njeru and Martin Mukundi will vie for the Muminji and Evurore ward seats respectively in Mbeere North Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Sonko rejected claims that NEDP is backed by external political interests, saying the party is locally founded and driven by grassroots support.
“We are launching our first candidates in these by-elections, and we are confident in our chances,” Sonko said.
He said the party would actively support its candidates through direct voter engagement, including door-to-door campaigns.
NEDP was fully registered on December 9, 2025. Party officials say it aims to position itself around economic development and unity as it seeks to establish a presence in national and local politics.
The by-elections will provide the party with its first electoral test as it seeks to build visibility and credibility ahead of future political contes
