Speaker Moses Wetangula excited as Twitter account finally verified

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula's official Twitter account has finally been verified.

The account, which boosts over 933,000 followers, got Twitter's verification blue badge on Saturday.

Wetangula made the announcement thereafter with excitement, coming barely three weeks after the former Bungoma Senator assumed his new role as Speaker of the National Assembly.

"Finally, Twitter verified us as tweeps," he wrote.

Unlike many politicians' accounts which are most times verified with even less than 10,000 followers, Wetangula's account has taken what many people see as the longest time, despite his huge influence.

According to Twitter, the number of followers is not a factor in determining the time taken for an account to be verified.

A verified account is crucial in its role of authenticity because it increases legitimacy in public interest matters and cuts back on phishing which has become common across social platforms.
