The prosecution has asked the court not to grant John Matara, the main suspect in socialite Starlet Wahu's murder case, cash bail saying that he is likely to interfere with witnesses in the case.

The prosecution submitted that he is a flight risk adding that before his arrest, Matara's tenancy was terminated from his apartment in Kasarani and therefore has no known fixed place of abode.

Further, the prosecution noted that several police stations have recorded complaints against Matara from different women, who claim he lured them to short-term accommodation apartments and committed criminal acts before fleeing.

In an affidavit, investigating officer Sergeant Alex Chokera says that John Matara met socialite Starlet Wahu on an online dating site “Bed Escorts” on January 1, 2024, before allegedly killing her at a short-stay rental apartment in South B, Nairobi where they physically met for the first time.

It is the officer’s testimony that the owner of the apartment has expressed fears for her life given that she physically interacted with Matara whom she also gave her telephone contacts.

The matter will be mentioned on March 18, 2024.

Matara was charged with killing Wahu and pleaded not guilty.

He asked the court to grant him cash bail, saying that if released, he will abide by all the court directions.
