State stand on family values, ACK archbishop tells CJ, DCJ

ACK Archbishop Jackson Olesapit has called on the appointed Chief Justice David Kenani Maraga and his deputy Lady Justice Philomena Mbete Mwilu to express their stand on family values.

Speaking while lying a foundation stone at Iserve Africa Insititute in Ndeiya, Kikuyu, the archbishop said that he is yet to hear the two state their stand on family values.

“I’m not privy to the stand of the CJ and DCJ on family values because I have not heard them clearly state it, especially on polygamy,” he said.

The head of the Anglican Church in Kenya stated that as a church they regard marriages as being monogamous, but stated that they realise that many Kenyan communities practice polygamy and thus cannot order the dissolution of such unions.

“As a church we believe a family is a man, woman and children, but we also know in Kenya many communities are polygamous and we can’t ask to dissolve all polygamous families because it is a tall order,” he said.

He stressed the importance of the family unit in society, saying the family is the foundation of society and must be protected at all costs.

“The family is the foundation of a society. And anything that tampers with the family values will jeopardize a stable nation,” he said.
