Stop attacking the Judiciary, Wetangula tells Uhuru
National Super Alliance leader Moses Wetangula has told President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop his attacks on the Judiciary which he termed as unjustified.
Speaking during the National Super Alliance’s vote hunt tour of Nyamira County, Wetangula said that the Judiciary is an independent arm of the government, adding that President Kenyatta should respect the office of the Chief Justice.
“Just recently the ruling coalition started attacking the Judiciary, we want to tell President Kenyatta and his foot soldiers that the office of the Chief Justice is a constitutional office which ought to be respected,” Wetangula said.
The former Foreign Affairs minister expressed confidence that the opposition will triumph in the coming elections, saying that after traversing the country and talking with Kenyans he is certain that NASA will trounce the ruling jubilee coalition.
IDPS compensation
NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga questioned the timing President Kenyatta’s issuance of cheques worth Ksh.358 million and Ksh. 460 million to Kisii and Nyamira Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) in June saying the move was meant to woo voters.
“The Jubilee administration is not being honest with Kisii and Nyamira residents, they only issued the IDPS living here because they want to be re-elected, the money they gave out here is not enough.” Raila said.
His sentiments were echoed by his presidential running mate, Kalonzo Musyoka who said that NASA will adequately compensate IDP’S residing in the two counties.
“Kisii and Nyamira IDP’s were only given Ksh40,000 while Kenyans in other regions were given Ksh400, 000 and given pieces of land. Are you second class citizens? When we form the government we will make sure that everyone affected will be compensated,” Kalonzo said.
NASA promises to increase policemen salary
Raila said that if elected his administration will increase salaries of policemen saying that the servicemen engage in corruption because they are not remunerated well enough.
“The service men and women ask for bribes because they are not paid well enough, NASA has a permanent solution which is to increase their salary.” Raila said.
He took a swipe at Jubilee saying that there is nothing wrong to initiate development projects but stressed that the ruling party has borrowed excessively, funds which have been lost to corruption.
