Striking Moi University lecturers claim they are receiving termination threats

Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU) officials from Moi University have shifted blame to the institution, maintaining that they will not bow to any ill persuasions.

Led by UASU official Duncan Mukhwana, the lecturers said they will maintain the strike until their demands are met.

"We are aware that some of them are receiving threats that if they do not report for duty, they will be terminated. We are assuring our members that no such thing is going to take place," he said.

They said the strike will go on as no agreement has been reached between them and the university council, noting that the staff have gone for three months now without medical cover.

Among the issues they are raising are non-remittal of pension funds and pending loans, noting that the staff can not access loans in any financial facility due to unpaid loans.

The strike commenced on August 20, 2025.

Moi University has recently been under a management crisis which has resulted in loss of funds and strikes, leading to frustration among students and parents.
