Student killed, 19 others injured in school bus accident

A student from Rapogi Mixed Secondary School died while 19 others were injured in a road accident at Kombewa, Kisumu County on Friday, February 23 .

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Nyanza Traffic Boss Andrew Naibei said the accident occurred near Seme Deputy County Commissioner’s office when the students were on their way from a sports event at a neighbouring school in Kombewa.

Mr. Naibei said the school bus veered off the road and rolled as the driver tried to avoid ramming into a Public Service Vehicle (PSV).

According to the traffic boss, 30 students came out of the accident unscathed.

The injured students were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment hours after being admitted at Kombewa District Hospital.

Reports indicate that the bus was ferrying 50 students from Rapogi and Ngutu Secondary schools.
