South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi has called for a change in ODM and, by extension, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party's leadership in Parliament saying that some leaders serving in various positions are not
up to the task.
Omondi, who was speaking in Uriri sub-county
where he accompanied ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Saturday, said he would push for the change in the Minority Whip
position which is currently held by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, whom he accuses of not serving them well.
“I
think it has now become necessary to do an introspection on how we can better
work in the National Assembly and unite behind the leadership there,” he said.
“In
consultation with a lot of ODM MPs and other grand coalition members, I think
there is a need to look at how the leadership works there. We are very happy
with Opiyo Wandayi but we have a problem with the Chief Whip, Junet Mohamed. We
need to look at that position and see how to reorganise it and maybe get a new
person."
The
MP claimed the ODM party has lost many opportunities in and out of Parliament because of what he termed as poor leadership exhibited by some of its members.
“We
have basically lost everything in Parliament; things that we could have won if
we had been properly mobilised. When we were in the House to vote for the IEBC
issue, when the votes were counted only 19 of us voted, yet the door was
locked. So where did the others go to?” Omondi posed.
The legislator said a time has
come for a change in the leadership of the ODM party for the betterment of the
party.
He
likewise defended his support of the Kenya
Kwanza government saying that he is interested in bringing development to the
people of Nyanza.
Meanwhile,
CS Owalo on his part called on the Luo community to work closely with President
William Ruto's administration for the sake
of development.
Owalo, who presided over relief food distribution at Koduogo
Primary School, said the government is ready to bring development in all parts
of the country regardless of any region’s political affiliation.
The
CS said he would ensure that he becomes the voice of the Luo community in the
government and therefore asked for support from the leaders and the people.
