Irate residents of Odiedo estate in Karapul sub-county, Siaya, took matters into their own hands, lynching a suspected burglar who was caught attempting to break into a house by cutting the metal grill of a window.

The incident unfolded around 3:58 am when a tenant, who operates a bodaboda in the area, noticed the suspect.

He promptly raised alarm, and with the help of colleagues, confronted the suspect outside the gate as he attempted to escape.

In the ensuing attempt to apprehend the suspect, he turned aggressive, injuring three individuals with a panga.

Members of the public who responded to the commotion subjected the suspect to mob justice, resulting in his death.

The injured parties were quickly transported to Siaya County Referral Hospital for medical treatment, and are reported to be in stable condition.

Siaya County Police Boss, Cleti Kemboi, confirmed that the police had visited and processed the scene. During their investigation, a blood-stained panga and a torch were recovered.

Meanwhile, the deceased's body has been taken to Siaya County Referral Mortuary, awaiting identification and autopsy procedures.

The incident highlights the challenges posed by vigilantism and underscores the importance of maintaining law and order through official channels.
