Suspected murderer brutally killed, body burned

A middle-aged man was Thursday brutally killed and his body burnt in Chieni village, Mathira West Constituency for allegedly killing a woman and her one and a half-year-old child.

Charles Thagana is said to have waylaid and hacked to death Christine Wamaitha Maina, 40, and her toddler using a panga at the nearby Ngorano village before going into hiding.

Other residents claim Thagana first sliced some of Wamaitha’s body parts before pouncing on the child.

Confirming the incident, area Senior Chief Joseph Muhoro said that after committing the heinous offence, Thagana sought refuge at his uncle’s home in Chieni village.

The locals could not contain their anger when they got wind of the news that Thagana had been spotted roaming about Chieni village.

The irate residents pounced on Thagana, thrashing him to death and thereafter, setting his body ablaze.

The deceased was notorious for being in and out of jail. He is known to have threatened to kill villagers with a panga.
