Suspects to be arraigned over raid on Kenyatta family Northlands farm - Kindiki
Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki says
several suspects are set to be arraigned in connection with the raid that
occurred on the farm of Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family in Ruiru,
Kiambu County.
While describing the March 27th raid as a “serious
crime”, Prof. Kindiki said investigations into the incident have been ongoing
and that “soon” suspects would be presented in court.
The Interior CS acknowledged that investigations into the attack
had taken long, blaming it on politicization of the matter.
“What happened in Northlands is a serious crime. Yes, we
have undertaken investigations and we will be arraigning some suspects very
soon,” said Kindiki.
He added: “It has taken a lot of time because of politicization around it. And I have said to you Kenyans, we don’t want to politicize national security.”
He assured that anyone found culpable regardless
of their political affiliation would be held responsible for their actions. He
pointed out that some government-allied leaders could soon be facing action
over involvement in crime.
“Some of the political leaders who have been fanning violent
attacks on property and police officers in Kericho and Bomet are Kenya Kwanza
politicians and they will have to be arrested once we conclude investigations,”
said Kindiki.
Over 1,500 Dorper sheep were stolen at the Kenyatta family-owned Northlands farm after a gang
of suspected hired goons raided the property.
Armed with machetes and axes, the
goons who gained entrance to the property through the fence, also went on
destruction spree, felling down trees and setting part of the farm of fire.
The raid on the former Head of
State’s land happened almost simultaneously with an attack at opposition leader
Odinga’s gas company Spectre, leading to allegations of a coordinated plot
targeting the two Azimio opposition coalition leaders.
More than two months later, no
one has since been arrested over the incident.
