Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja on Thursday told the court that she never approved of the relationship between her daughter, the late Tecra Muigai, and Omari Lali.

Karanja, while being cross-examined by Lali’s lawyer, said that it was not normal in a relationship for a relatively older man to receive huge amounts of money from a young girl.

She told the court that Lali was greedy, and denied allegations that she controlled her daughter, instead disclosing that she actually let her be and live her life.

"For us it was not normal...a child to transfer money to a 60-year-old man, that's not normal," she stated.

“She knew what was she was doing was wrong...I did not approve of that relationship...It was not about the looks, you are not Jehova to know who looks good.”

Tecra’s brother was also recalled to the stand and told the court he was shocked when he met Lali, saying even he disapproved of the relationship.

"If I were to advise her then, I'd have discouraged her from that relationship...my parents never approved that relationship...I was sent to go to Lamu to tell her to go back home but she declined," he said.

He told the court that his sister was very defensive and that a lot changed in her life after she started going out with Lali.

He added that Tecra wanted the family to approve of the relationship, and would tell them that she would still be with Lali their blessings.

“She used to tell us that Lali was a prophet and not a normal man," he told the court.

The matter was adjourned to December 6, 2023 when Lali is expected to testify.
