Teachers at Maraba Secondary School in Nandi County on Tuesday marched to the Aldai Sub-county education offices to protest what they termed as insecurity at their workplace.

This is after students beat and badly injured a teacher at the school last week.

Led by officials from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in the county, the teachers left the school on Tuesday, demanding punishment of the students responsible for the act.

“The teacher was on his way home after work when students attacked him with blunt objects,” Paul Rotich, KUPPET’s county secretary said.

According to the teachers, this is not the first time such an incident has taken place since a female teacher was also beaten by students last year.

“We are going to use all means to ensure that justice is served for Mwalimu. We are no lesser beings,” said Salim Bhakit, the union’s treasurer.
