Ten girls benefit from Sh20m scholarship

Ten girls from Terem High School in Bungoma County have received a Sh20 million scholarship courtesy of the Presbyterian University Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Kibas in a bid to curb early marriages.

Speaking at Terem high school on Monday, the school’s proncipal Ondogo Obimba said the scholarship will help students from needy background to pursue education and get their dream careers.

Obimba said that the students from the Mt Elgon area would help uplift the region and help avoid early pregnancies.

He also challenged other leaders to also emulate Professor Kibas saying: “Let other leaders emulate the professor because it is only through education that one can be able to secure the future of the society.”

The beneficiaries lauded the VC for his generosity and vowed to give back to the community as a way of appreciation.

“I thank the vice chancellor for offering us the scholarship. The scholarship will help me pursue my university education and help the community to develop and also aid the less fortunate in the society just as I was assisted,” said Janet Mtuku, one of the beneficiaries.

The sponsorship is worth Sh500,000 per academic year.
