Ten Machakos County officers released on Ksh.20K cash bail in MCA assault case

Ten Machakos County officers accused of accosting Kalama MCA Boniface Maeke have been released on a cash bail of Ksh.20,000 or a bond of Ksh.100,000 pending the completion of investigations.

The ten are; James Mwendwa, Albanus Muli, Joshua Kitolo, David Otieno, Cliff Benson, Simon Musembi, Boniface Musyoka, Evan's Mwambi, Alex Wambua and Jeff Musyoki.

The inspectorate officers appeared in court on Tuesday but did not take a plea since police had not completed probe into the incident.

Senior Principal Magistrate James Ombirah ordered that they appear in court on February 29, 2024 for plea-taking.

Meanwhile, they will report to the investigating officer every Thursday where they will be told on which other days they will be required to present themselves to the Machakos Police Station.

According to the charge sheet presented in court last week in connection with the assault on MCA Maeke outside the Machakos Law Courts compound, the 10 were charged with robbery with violence, assault, and causing a disturbance in court surroundings among others.

Maeke said in his statement that he lost Ksh.100,000, and a Samsung phone worth Ksh.150,000 among other personal effects. He is presently receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

Failure to pay the cash bail or bond, the 10 will be detained at the Machakos Police Station untill the mention of the case.

The case will be heard before Principal Magistrate Mary Otindo
